Summary: Using instruments allows your baby to experience concepts such as shape, weight, texture and sound. Shakers help to develop fine and gross motor skills while having some noisy fun.

  • Shakers can be made by pouring a small amount of pasta, rice, sand or dry beans into empty bottles or small plastic containers. Seal securely and check on a regular basis for any safety hazards.
  • Show your baby how to shake the homemade maracas.
  • Encourage your baby to use the shakers and maracas in other musical activities.
  • Use a variety of noise-making objects so your baby can explore different sounds.
